Terms of Service
Last updated 15 August 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and farfar. They are written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, ask before you agree to it.
Who you are agreeing with
farfar is operated by Stefan Egeberg, a sole proprietor based in Iowa, United States (“farfar”, “we”, “us”). It is a small business, not a large company, and there is one person behind it. Contact: hello@farfar.app.
What the service does
You dictate or type short notes over days. We use an AI model to shape those notes into a letter in your voice, translate it into your recipient’s language, place any photographs you have attached, and — after you have seen and approved the finished letter — print it and post it to the address you have given.
We never mail anything you have not approved. Every letter is shown to you in full, exactly as it will be printed, and nothing is sent until you confirm that specific version. If you edit the letter afterwards, your earlier approval stops counting and you will be asked again.
You need to be 18
You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account. Children can of course contribute to a letter — that is much of the point — but the account, the payment and the responsibility for what gets sent belong to an adult.
What you are responsible for
The people you write to
When you add a recipient you are giving us another person’s name, postal address and often details about their life. By doing so you confirm that:
- you have a genuine personal relationship with them;
- you have their address legitimately, and it is correct;
- you reasonably believe they would welcome a letter from you — and that if they asked you to stop, you would.
farfar must not be used to contact someone who does not want to hear from you. Sending unwanted mail to a person who has asked you to stop, or to someone protected by a court order, is a serious misuse of this service. We will close accounts for it without a refund, and we will comply with lawful requests from anyone who tells us they are receiving mail they did not want.
What the letter says
The letter is written from your notes by an AI model. It is instructed never to invent events, names or details — but models make mistakes, and translation can shift meaning in ways neither of us intends. You are the author. You see the full letter before anything is printed, you can edit any line, and once you approve it, it is your letter and your responsibility.
Where a note suggests something needs checking, we flag it before you send. That is a courtesy, not a guarantee that everything else is correct.
Photographs
Only upload photographs you have the right to share. If a photograph shows a child, you confirm you are their parent or guardian, or have permission from one. These pictures get printed and posted to another person, which cannot be undone.
Plans, payment and cancelling
Your first letter is free
No card is required to send your first letter. If it does not make someone’s week, do not subscribe.
Plans
| Plan | Letters | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keepsake | 2 per month | $12 | $120 |
| Family Favorite | 4 per month | $20 | $200 |
| Devoted | 8 per month | $32 | $320 |
Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that may apply where you live. Every plan includes worldwide delivery, colour photographs and translation, and there is no limit on how many people you write to.
Letters, rollover and extras
Your letters reset each billing period, on the anniversary of the day you subscribed. Letters you do not use carry forward for one period only — they do not accumulate indefinitely. If you need one more in a given month you can buy a single extra letter for $5; bought letters do not roll over.
Renewal and cancellation
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Your details, which takes you to Stripe’s billing portal. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not refund the current period, and you keep your remaining letters until that period ends.
Refunds
If a letter fails to arrive because of something we or our printing partners did, tell us and we will reprint and resend it, or refund that letter. If you are unhappy for another reason, write to hello@farfar.app — this is a small business and we would rather sort it out than argue about it.
We cannot refund a letter that was posted to an address you entered incorrectly, but we will help you send it again.
Delivery
We print through commercial printing partners and hand the finished letter to a postal service. Delivery times we quote are estimates based on those partners’ typical performance, not promises: once a letter is in the post it is outside anyone’s control.
Letters are printed on standard white paper in large, easy-to-read type, up to three sheets including photographs, and six sheets is our limit — a longer letter stops being read in one sitting. Photographs are printed together on their own page at the back.
Who owns what
Your notes, your photographs and your letters are yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store them, send them to the AI model that composes and translates, produce a printed document, and give that document to a printing and postal partner so it can reach your recipient. We do not use your letters or photographs to advertise farfar, and we do not sell them.
The farfar name, site and software are ours.
Things we can stop doing
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, particularly the part about unwanted mail. We may also refuse a specific letter if we believe posting it would be unlawful or would cause someone harm.
farfar is early software run by one person. We may change features, and we may eventually stop offering the service. If we do stop, we will give you reasonable notice, let you download your letters, and refund any period you have paid for but not received.
What we do not promise
The service is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, that a letter will arrive by a particular date, or that an AI-written letter will be free of mistakes — which is precisely why you approve every one before it is sent.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before it arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you keep all the statutory rights your local law gives you, and nothing in these terms takes them away.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, United States, and disputes will be heard there — except that if you are a consumer resident in the EU or UK, you may bring proceedings in your own country and your local consumer law applies.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email you before the change takes effect. Continuing to use farfar afterwards means you accept the new version.
